I little bit about me
My earliest memories are of animals and nature. Hours were spent cutting out pictures of every conceivable animal to make picture books.
After matriculating, I decided that I wanted a career that was going to be fulfilling and challenging. For this reason I started nursing and qualified as a registered nurse.
Nursing was, however, a poor personality fit and an interest in human nature and behaviour was the main motivation to continue studying part time through UNISA. Once I had graduated from UNISA with a BA degree, I started studying full time through the University of the Witwatersrand.
I have completed a Masters degree in General Psychology with a focus on health and community, as well as a Masters in Clinical Psychology.
My work experience includes NGO work with FAMSA, Hospice training in Welkom, Community work on the Phelophepa train, as well as training and workshops for Equip for Life - a community based service to schools.
My professional experience has included working at Riverfield Lodge in the Rehabilitation Unit and the Eating Disorders Unit in Tara Hospital. I am currently in private practice in Fourways.
My practice focus includes all emotional disorders. I also work with work related and family crises. My hospice training has given me the insight to work with bereavement and terminal illness.
I work with addiction related problems, particularly with partners or families that are struggling to cope with addiction related issues. My work also includes working with ‘Adult Children of Alcoholics’.
Extramural activities include ultra distance running and hiking.
My interest in nature and conservation has been the motivation to become involved in the SANParks Honorary Rangers and I have completed all the courses to become a member of the SANParks Honorary Ranger organisation.
My experience and belief in the wisdom of nature has been the motivation for my venture into eco-psychology, leading me to set up courses that explore the exciting possibilities of this field.
