Therapy and Wellness Rooms, Pineslopes
Psychological support is usually sought out in times of crisis, or periods when an inner conflict is causing distress. This can come in many forms. Talking to someone with a professional and empathic ear can be the first step in healing, or resolving a problem.
Health related problems:
Dealing with chronic illness, or physical disability can be lonely and emotionally draining. I have a background in nursing and have completed the hospice training in support during times of terminal illness. I also have a Masters degree with modules in health psychology.
There are times when a whole family might be overwhelmed by coping and caring. Because I have decided to shift some of my focus onto health related issues, I do offer a home visiting service in the Fourways, Douglasdale, Lonehill, and Dainfern area. This is for people who have difficulty in travelling, or are too ill to make the journey to a health facility.
Addiction:
Addiction can come in many forms and has the capacity to destroy the individual, or family. I not only offer clinical assessment for physical addiction, and counselling services for physically addicted individuals, but do give family support or support to those who have been affected by addiction. This includes adult children of alcoholics.
Having a professional who is able to understand the many ramifications of addiction offers new hope to those who are affected by this disease. My period at Riverfield Lodge has given me some insight into the many consequences of addiction.
Emotional related problems:
Depression and anxiety can come on at any stage of life and be completely debilitating. It can have an affect on social, work and family functioning. Understanding emotion and the inner world of the psyche is the most important step towards healing. My focus is insight related and facilitating change.
Relationships:
Many people feel out of control and afraid due to relationship, or work related problems. My background in FAMSA and my work as an affiliate for ICAS (an employee wellness program) has given me diverse experience in couples work and in the workplace.
Spiritual:
Seeking meaning and purpose is our deepest and most abiding journey. The journey of the soul is one that has to understand suffering and move towards hope. It is a journey that always seeks out the greater good.
My own journey takes in many retreats into nature. My approach is one of openness to the many paths towards one final goal. I am in the process of setting up an Ecopsychology program to assist people in their spiritual journey.
